Central Air, and Cooling System

Diesel-electric locomotives generate enormous quantities of waste heat — from the engine jacket water, turbocharger exhaust, and traction motor dynamic braking grids. The central air and cooling system dissipates this heat through a combination of radiator banks, cooling fans, water pumps, and blowers to maintain safe operating temperatures under all load conditions, including sustained full-power operation in high ambient temperatures.

Supco Canada supplies aftermarket cooling system components for EMD® and GE® locomotives — including 48-inch cooling fans, radiator assemblies, water pumps, lube pumps, dynamic brake grid fans, engine air filters, inertial air filters, electric cabinet filters, air discharge motors, auxiliary generator blowers, and the 5GDY gear unit that drives the cooling fan.
